Servant of All

“But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
~Mark 10:43-45

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.  Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
~Philippians 2:5-8

“And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.’ ”
~Mark 8:34

This is the call of the Christian: to deny myself as Jesus Christ denied Himself; to place others first as Jesus Christ did; to be the last in my own estimation.  When I serve myself, I am not following Christ.  Self always turns me away from Him.  He denied Himself, and I must follow His lead.

“the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”
~I John 2:6
