He Has Dealt Bountifully With Me

“I will sing to the LORD,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.”
~Psalm 13:6

David says this at the end of a Psalm which starts
“How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?”

The man was in trouble when he wrote this.  His life was hard.  He felt as though the LORD were hiding His face from him.  Yet, he sings, “He has dealt bountifully with me.”

It reminds me of this:
“I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
~Psalm 34:1, emphasis mine
and this:
“...The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
~Job 1:21

It really makes me think.  Am I thanking the LORD for the hard times in life?  Can I sing in the fire, “The LORD has dealt bountifully with me”?
If not, it’s because I have my own ideas about what’s good for me.  It’s not because He hasn’t dealt bountifully with me.

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD gives grace and glory;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
~Psalm 84:11, emphasis mine
